  • What is Epigenetics?
Epigenetics is the science of how your genes interact with your environment. It’s where your nature and nurture merge, to create the on-going expression of you. You are born with a set of genes which are programmed by your inner, and outer environments. This two way relationship is constantly changing the way your body reads your genetic code according to the environment you create. Epigenetic changes do not change your DNA sequence, they function to turn genes on and off. This is good news, as although you have been dealt a random genetic hand by nature, your behaviour and daily choices of your outer environment, are actually within your control. Adding simple health promoting habits, such as prioritised sleep, exercising, eating whole foods or meditation, can turn on the expression of favorable genes to create positive long term health outcomes. You can even reverse unwanted health effects and turn off potentially unfavorable genes when a health impacting habit is removed. Just because you have the gene, doesn't mean it will express. The body actively wants to heal, all you need to do is provide the optimal environment. Thanks to the science of epigenetics, we now know that your genes do not dictate your destiny. You personally have the power to make changes to your environment through specific lifestyle choices, to take control of your genes and generate your optimal self.
  • What is the process?
Your DNA test kit will arrive in the mail. Use the DNA swab to collect an inner cheek sample, and register it with the kit barcode number. Post the registered sample to our DNA testing laboratory in the United States with the enclosed envelope. You will receive your personal genetic data from the lab via email in up to 28 business days. Your raw genetic data is then analysed by Ethan in up to 10 business days. Ethan will schedule your genetic interpretation and lifestyle review appointment via video call.
  • How long does it take to process my DNA and report?
The entire process takes up to 6 weeks from the time you post your DNA sample. This is broken down into approximately two weeks shipping, two weeks for DNA testing at the lab, and two weeks for the DNA analysis and report by Ethan.
  • Who owns my DNA data?
You do. Your anonymous DNA sample is submitted to the lab as a barcode. The barcode is registered on a separate server to match the result to your personal email when it is processed. The sample, raw data and personal information are temporarily stored on independent servers during processing. This sample and raw data file are initially retained for approximately 3 months in order to re-run the sample if there is any question. The sample is then destroyed and the data erased from the server. It is important for you to keep your data in a secure place as it will not be retrievable after the retention period.
